Open Circle Workshop

Open Circle Workshop with Anne Tallentire and members of Open Circle Vicki O’Donoghue, Erica Carey, Lucy Glendenning, Alice Bennett, Gerardine O’Connor, Julie O’Hea, Mary Harmon, Jean Burke, Nora Brennan and Mary Butler. The workshop tool place at Open Circle House in Kilkenny. Anne also gave public talk at Callan Workhouse Union. These workshops happened on Monday, 25 May, 2015 (in advance of the opening of 'Still, We Work' at Callan Workhouse Union). Others from the group, including Enya Kennedy, Angela Doheny and Maura Cahill, also joined the workshop participants in a visit to the exhibition.

Breaking Ground: The Story of the London Irish Women's Centre

A feature documentary directed by Michelle Deignan, was screened at Cleere’s Theatre, Parliament St, Kilkenny followed by a skype Q&A with Michelle Deignan and Eilís Ní Chaithnía, Membership Development Officer, NWCI. 'Breaking Ground' is a documentary featuring 18 interviewees closely involved with London Irish Women's Centre. These include artist Anne Tallentire, who held a workshop based on her work for 'Still, We Work' with the Open Circle group in Kilkenny and presented a talk in advance of the exhibition in Callan. Monday, 22 June 2015.

Burn in Flames: Post Patriarchal Archive in Circulation

Opening event at Callan Workhouse Union, artists Sarah Browne and Jesse Jones premiered their demo for ‘Burn in Flames: Post Patriarchal Archive in Circulation’. The demo was screened as part of their collaborative project ‘In the Shadow of the State’ commissioned by Artangel (London) and Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts in Ireland. Friday, 26 June 2015.

Callan Workhouse Library and Sonja Landweer Loan

A small sculpture by designer and artist Sonja Landweer was exhibited during the exhibition. This was placed alongside reference books and archive materials in the specially collected library in the Workhouse. Landweer was born in Amsterdam in 1933. In 1952, she studied ceramics at the Amsterdam School of Industrial Design, the Rietveld Academie before moving to Ireland where she has lived for over forty years. She first came to teach at the Kilkenny Design Workshops where she was Artist-in Residence. The sculpture was kindly loaned by Crafts Council of Ireland from their collection.
