STILL, WE WORK, 3 - 14th March
Event MOVING INTO THE SPACE CLEARED BY OUR MOTHERS, 7th March, 5 - 8pm
NWCI presents STILL, WE WORK at Cork City Hall, in collaboration with Ballyphehane Togher Community Development Project and Cork City Council Arts Office. Ballyphehane Togher CDP are celebrating their 20th year in 2014.
On International Women's Day, 7th March, NWCI and Ballyphehane Togher CDP are holding a very special event in the Atrium of Cork City Hall called "Moving Into the Space Cleared by our Mothers", hosted by Deirdre O’ Shaughnessy, Editor of the Cork Independent. The event features contributions by Noreen Byrne (Former Chair NWCI and Director of Doras Bui) and Frances Byrne (Director of OPEN Ireland), who will reflect on the core contribution made by women to community organising in Ireland.
Noreen was one of the founding members of Doras Buí, the first locally based lone parent resource centre in Ireland, established under the 2nd EU Programme to Combat Poverty. Frances is Director of Open Ireland which is the leading anti-poverty network representing lone parent families in Ireland and is a board member of the NWCI.
Noreen is also one of the contributors to Vagabond Reviews' (In)Visible Labour Factorium.
